Our Story
We Christians affirm the transforming work of God’s Spirit in our lives. However, many believers focus more on what they can “get” from that relationship, instead of accepting his call to “go” into his world to transform it through his love as agents of change for the “kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.” Jesus’ last words to his disciples commissioned them to do that very thing, with his significant promise to be “with” them to the ends of the earth. Today, there are millions of people who have never heard or clearly understood the good news of Christ, the One who sends us to “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20).
Recently, in our Waco community, 30 local Christian leaders met together to affirm our desire to address these issues, beginning with a fall mission’s conference to reignite the passion through biblical teaching, training, motivation, worship and opportunities to better fulfill that commission. On October 6-8, 2025, a collaborative of local churches, Christian non-profits, Baylor Spiritual Life and George W. Truett Theological Seminary are offering a conference entitled, “Beyond Us…From Neighborhoods to the Nations.” It will begin on the Baylor campus on Monday evening, October 6, focusing on college students and followed by a two-day gathering on October 7-8. There will be five plenary speakers, worship, and 30 workshops over the two days. (Note: some workshops will be held in Spanish).
Finally, know that this conference embraces a holistic view of mission, from the poor and marginalized in our cities to those in other lands who have never heard the name of Jesus. We will also address topics including refugees, mobilizing Christians, church planting, Bible translation, and various social issues. Our scope intends to both encourage us to participate involvement in a variety of ways “to the ends of the earth,” but also to consider engagement in one’s own community in “business as mission,” engineering, clean water, sports outreach and prison outreach. We can all pray!
